Host Fish Suitability for Freshwater Bivalve Anodonta woodiana Breeding Programs

چکیده
The freshwater bivalve Anodonta woodiana is native to China and widely distributed in Asia, Europe, North America. However, natural populations of A. have dramatically declined recently. Several fish species been used as potential hosts breeding programs; nonetheless, the optimal host yet be identified. In this study, we examined suitability five (bighead carp, common crucian yellow catfish, tilapia) for under laboratory conditions. No significant difference was found number glochidia attached species; however, tilapia hosted more transformed juveniles than bighead or catfish (p < 0.05), with carp hosting least 0.05). Yellow had highest capacity index (the successfully juveniles/the weight × survival rate fish), 133 times higher 1.3–2.9 other species. shell length height freshly from were significantly larger those juvenile (shell height) that conclusion, appears most suitable out tested here.

Cadmium Accumulation and Metallothionein Biosynthesis in Cadmium-Treated Freshwater Mussel Anodonta woodiana
This study investigated the distribution of cadmium (Cd) and the protein level of metallothionein (MT) and examined the relationship of Cd accumulation and the MT concentration in different tissues of freshwater mussel Anodonta woodiana following Cd treatment. The mussels were exposed to Cd (4.21, 8.43, 16.86, 33.72 and 67.45 mg L-1) for 24, 48, 72 and 96 h, respectively. After Cd treatment, th...
متن کاملMorphological and chemical characterization of mineral concretions in the freshwater bivalve Anodonta cygnea (Unionidae).
The freshwater mussel Anodonta cygnea is commonly used as a model organism for biomineralization studies, its peculiar morphofunctional properties also make it an excellent environmental biomonitor. The first detailed on the calcareous concretions from gill and mantle tissue, as well as fluids of the freshwater bivalve A. cygnea, supported by histological, scanning, spectrometry, and spectrosco...
متن کاملResponse of metallothionein concentrations in a freshwater bivalve (Anodonta grandis) along an environmental cadmium gradient
Surficial (oxic) sediments, overlying water, and specimens of the freshwater bivalve Anodonta grandis were collected by divers at 11 littoral lacustrine sites located along a geochemical gradient of pH, [Cd], Dl, and [Z n in an area influenced by mining and smelting activities. The molluscs were dissected (gills; 1 hepatopancreas; remaining tissues) and analyzed for Cd, Cu, Zn, and metallothion...
متن کاملIdentification of Gender-associated Mitochondrial Haplotypes in Anodonta Anatina (bivalvia: Unionidae)
Doubly uniparental inheritance (DUI) of mitochondrial DNA, different from maternal inheritance, is known to occur in five bivalve families (Mytilidae, Veneridae, Unionidae, Margaritiferidae, Hyriidae). DUI involves two types of mitochondrial DNA: F type, inherited from the mother and M type, inherited from the father. Females have only F type mtDNA, males have both types, M type being located i...
متن کاملEstablishment of a new alien species in Lake Maggiore (Northern Italy): Anodonta (Sinanodonta) woodiana (Lea, 1834) (Bivalvia: Unionidae)
This note is the first communication of the occurrence of the alien Anodonta (Sinanodonta) woodiana (Lea, 1834) (Bivalvia: Unionidae) in Lake Maggiore (Northern Italy). We have found empty shells of the bivalve first in August 2010, and since then, this species is colonizing rapidly the second deepest subalpine lake in Italy. Preliminary findings on morphometric features of A. woodiana in the L...
